Rather Special: 15mm Spec Ops from Oddział Ósmy

Back to some 15mm. And sci fi to boot.

I’ve already painted up some miniatures from Oddział Ósmy – namely some 15mm insurgents (sci fi modern) and some rather cool vampires, also modern/sci fi. All from a rather large order from Assault Publishing whilst taking advantage of an attractive special offer a while back.

Below are some of the Special Forces types. Main take-away points;

  • Brilliant sculpting and casting
  • Full of character
  • Scale on the ‘larger’ size but nothing drastic
  • ‘Largish heads’ to body size, but needed to squeeze in that extra character
  • Pewter of a ‘harder’ than normal quality making cleaning a bit more time consuming and blunt-inducing.

Just finishing off a dozen more of the insurgents. Photos to follow soon.

Mini Update: Sci Fi tech from the 15mm Ion Age

Another “in-betweener”. I’d been painting mostly fantasy lately so I slotted in this fellow from the Ion Age range from GBS also of 15mm.co.uk and other great miniature lines. Duxis Pilot, Male, with control unit and Angis Pistol.

A useful and generic enough miniature that could slot in to any sci fi environment. I didn’t paint up the Duxis Drone yet that he comes with as he’s stand-alone (IMHO). He’s related to these fellows who I’ve had for decades but are responsible for sparking off my more recent foray into 15mm Sci Fi over the last few years – so responsible for a lot of money and time and lead!

Appealing for Non-Metallic Metal assistance: Oathsworn Haggis

I am not happy with the way that my first (proper) attempt at NMM (Non-Metallic Metals) is turning out so I thought I’d appeal to the wider community to any assistance/pointers/comments to help me move on with this.

This is a very nice model from Oathsworn and I wanted to do it justice (maybe NMM isn’t the way to do that but more on that later).

Stage 1: This is the first run. WIP – Conclusion: Okay.

Shedding some light on your terrain (Spiral Out of Control part 2)

Not really a ‘new’ topic but my earlier post got a little out of hand so I thought I’d splinter this off on its own with a little more focus.

I mentioned the Wargame-Model-Mods Kickstarter that I modestly jumped on recently and thought that I should post a few photos of my purchases in ‘isolation’ of all the other clutter I have a tendency to flood a table with.

I’m sure the addition of ‘light’ to a game table will appeal to many especially anyone interested in Infinity or Sci Fi stuff. So here is my stash from the afore mentioned KS;

FYI, floor are titles from the Battle System Sci Fi terrain set.

How terrain building can spiral out of control…

(I apologise in advance – a much more wordy and pic heavy post than usual.)

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I’m not in this for terrain building. I’m not that good at it. I do enjoy it but I do get bored and sidetracked easily. And I start resenting it when I realised it has taken me down a rabbit hole and eaten up time I’d rather be using damaging my huge lead pile.

But I do agree with the premise that GOOD TERRAIN IS IMPORTANT. “We spend hours painting detailed miniatures for people to look at, then why not also the terrain the are played on?” More importantly, your little guys need somewhere nice to live…

Thinking aside (who needs that?) I decided I wanted to make some sci fi terrain for some interior skirmish actions. I’ve plenty stuff for sci fi habitations, colony bases, post-apoc shanty towns and the type of stuff you’d use for Infinity (cargo containers galore). Even enough for a small city using, amongst other things, Dropship Commander card terrain which works very well with 15mm btw.

15mm Spec Ops: Hell Divers from Clear Horizon Miniatures

I’ve invested quite a bit in to Clear Horizon including a recent KickStarter yet these are the only chaps I’ve actually got painted up as yet. This is, I believe, the Omega Hell Diver Squad. Generally I like the sculpts and poses available – I’ve just too many Special Ops troops now to make them ‘special’ anymore…

Better images here on the Clear Horizon site.
