I mentioned in passing in a previous post that I was planning on trying out using the game tiles from the GW Space Hulk game with 15mm alternatives. Similarly a host of Bugs from Khurasan.
The table I normally set such things up on was clear for once so I thought now’s the time. Here are the Khurasan Bugs. I’d bought a few packs of these a while ago. Then last year I made a rather rash (for me) “blind” purchase at 2015 Claymore of a rather large plastic storage container stuffed with, well, stuff. When I say “blind” it wasn’t totally blind as a cursory glance showed ample goodies inside to satisfy the £20 asking price. I’d list the contents but you’d just cry at the bargain.
Long story not-so-short, it included several additional packs of Khurasan aliens. Whoever was behind the box was of a similar mind to me; they clearly don’t do duplicates so these where ‘the other half’. Perfect.
A note on colour scheme – I’d already done a set of 10mm (Pendraken) aliens in their traditional black/metallic finish years ago and want to do something different this time around. Whilst not as ‘striking’ I’m okay with the more earthy colour of these guys. The blood-red core of their bodies doesn’t really come out the way I wanted. Might go back and gloss that bit up.
Here are some of them up against some Khurasan Colonial Marines featured previously. Also a few ‘scale-flexible’ Tyrannids from 6mm Epic. And a plastic mech or two.
Space Hulk tiles for 15mm Bug Hunt games? Conclusion – okay. Not amazing but certainly will do the job. Scale-wise nothing horrific. Gets me thinking a bit about 2.5d terrain options though…
I should add that I coloured the edging on these tiles to black and sprayed them with a Matt varnish to get rid of the almost mirror-like shine of the tiles. Much better in my opinion.
