Mini Update: Overdue Prang Raiders from the Ion Age

[EDIT: Previous post title assigned the Prang’s availability to 15mm.co.uk which has recently been reabsorbed into Alternative Armies. That aside, The Prang were moved from 15mm.co.uk to the Ion Age site some time ago anyway, so I got it wrong on 2 counts 😉 – and the Overdue reference is to my painting promise, not the availability of the miniatures.]

Excuses aside, this year so far has not been so great for the blog but the painting and hobby continues in the background. I promised these pics to GBS sometime ago and they did make a guest appearance in an earlier post but I’ve only now got around to posting their own, more focussed entry.

The Prang themselves, sculpted by Eli Arndt of Loud Ninja Games, are full of character. They make an excellent basis for a skirmish-level game, bug hunt or larger scale battle.

Available here on Alternative Armies Ion Age site, the Raiders being part of a growing range of Prang.

Ugly, Nasty, Vermin from Splintered Light

Anyone that knows this blog (or me) will know I am a big fan of Splintered Light Miniatures and have painted, more recently, quite a few human dark age and fantasy offerings from them. A long while ago I picked up some packs of their brilliant Woodland Warriors range (technically 20mm but lets not get too picky).

I painted them up years ago – all ‘goodies’. They have been without proper opposition for quite some time. I’ve dipped in and out of the Woodland Warriors and painted the odd one or two here and there but only recently (on the back of a ‘completist’ order made with SLM – thanks David) I painted the bossman for this swarm.

So it was about time a decent force for the ‘baddies’ was completed. A good mix of weapon types, magic user, assassin, hulk, heroes and a swarm (latter not SLM but I think GW) – should do for any decent skirmish warband or the hub for a larger force to grow out from.

(See previous posts about 20mm Woodland Warriors for comments on the adaptability of these guys for use in 15mm or 28mm settings.)

Only 100 or so other Woodland Creatures to paint up…

15mm Star Trek Away Team: Happy 50th Anniversary!

Last September (2016) was the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.  I did paint these at that time in ‘tribute’ to the show and universe. I would add though, I’m not a Trekkie by any stretch of the imagination – I like it, but we never really gelled, unlike that other famous sci-fi franchise 😉

That aside, these “Space Explorers” were available from a small US business called AstroMiniatures which I believe have since stopped trading (boo!). No doubt some cease and desist order played a part in that. I’ve a few Klingon-types and Romulan-types still to paint and these are about half of the Federation-types I bought as I traded a handful with a fellow gamer sometime back.

I’m glad I did paint them up as they look better painted than in lead and I may never have bothered to put a brush on them had it not been for the anniversary.

At the same time I painted up the little u-haul six wheeler and trailer from GZG. Nice. Also pictures is a grav sled-thing from 15mm.co.uk that was kicking around and seemed to fit for photo purposes.

Mini Update: Massive Chopper for Demonworld Dwarfs

Okay, so not the most challenging of models to paint but no doubt a great boost to any dwarf force – this mechanical war machine from Demonworld (Ral Partha Europe) is still a very nice model – and pretty large to boot.

I went a tad further and magnetised the arms so that they can be animated, removed or swapped out for other arms/weapons (there is a version with hammers…).
