I remain a big fan of Demonworld 15mm fantasy miniatures – but that doesn’t mean I immediately paint every miniature that I buy. This chap has been waiting in the paint queue for a very very long time. Perhaps nearly 20 years.
Aside from a hiatus from painting at all, I think in part is was a slightly intimidating model to paint and I kept putting it off thinking I couldn’t do it justice (He’s a Gar’ydwedd with Ballista, part of the Warlords of Thain range). Well, a few months ago I went along to Common Ground Games in Stirling where an airbrushing training day had been arranged and I took this beast along as my test model to work on.
For a first effort I am quite please with the results (I should have taken a pic without the howdah on it but, hey). Howdah and crew were painted more recently to finish him off. Now he can join the ranks of the growing horde.
A couple of scale shots for reference as requested on the 15mm Fantasy Facebook page. Excluding the horns, his overall size is 85mm long by 30mm wide by 62mm tall (top of shoulders). He’s next to an old Foundry Viking 25/8mm and a Splintered Light 15mm (true) Norman knight. Certainly big enough to play with the bigger boys.
The airbrush really has done the business with the markings – well done.
Yeah, the effect would have been tricky with a brush. Easy with an airbrush. Still early days there though… thanks.
Oooh, very nice indeed. You’ve really set the bar high for those of us about to paint similar mounted miniatures!
Me thinks not that high but thank you. Painting something for the dwarves? I’ve got this on my to-do list you might like the look of – http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/demonworld-15mm-c-76/demonworld-classic-c-76_151/dwarves-c-76_151_97/4419-dwarf-battle-rider-waxes-p-2548.html
Stop giving Tim ideas! I’m on the other side of the table :p
Oh I think Tim is quite able to come up with ways to enhance his diminutive guys by himself. Tim should check out the dwarf flyers whiles he’s there! I’ve a squadron still to paint. And of course the new Battle Valor line has balloons! We know Tim likes balloons.
That turned out great!!!
Thank you steam flunky. Coming from you that means lots. Cheers.
