Halloween Special: A Medley of 28mm miniatures

When I say “Halloween Special” I do think the Zombicide Abominalpha is pretty monstrous and suitably ‘horror’. Likewise the two pistol wielding miniatures look very ‘Van Helsing-like’ to justify the otherwise loose use of the Halloween phrase in the post title.

That aside, these are a ‘random’ collection of miniatures that I decided to paint up – random in the sense that over time there are certain miniatures in your collection that frequently pop in to your mind from time to time, almost asking “Why have you not painted me yet?” These are a few of the lucky few that I actually decided that they had been waiting long enough already.

First up, the Zombicide Abominalpha from Black Plague. In the first picture next to a standard size 28mm from Hasslefree Miniatures.

The Gap Plug Project: Swelling Undead Archer Ranks

I’ve more recently gone back over my collection with a view to plug some gaps – that might be a troop type for an army or in this case, expanding upon existing units so that their numbers tie in with the likes of Dragon Rampant unit sizes.

So, some fairly generic Undead Archers. Mostly from Alternative Armies, a few Splintered Light or Khurasan and some from, I think, TSR Battle Systems.

15mm Fantasy – a Kaleidoscope of Unrelated Fillers

Sometimes a little change is as good as a rest they say. This medley of 15mm Fantasy are such – often ‘unconnected’ miniatures I pick up to paint between slightly larger tasks or projects.

As a result there is no theme here beyond ’15mm fantasy’ and having said that the Big Cats are clearly non-genre specific but the intent was as roaming creatures for 15mm Frostgrave.

A Demonworld Empire Battle Mage/Magician. Tried to make the staff glow. Hmmm. He’s painted up to accompany these guys.

Mini Update: A Cabal of Vampires from Splintered Light

These rather sinister fellows are small in number and intended as the core of a skirmish force for the likes of Frostgrave, Song of Blades and Heroes or similar skirmish level games. Obviously they can do double-duty as a general and heroes in an undead army.

They come from Splintered Light Miniatures.

15mm High Elf Reinforcements arrive on the field

It had been on my mind for a while to get around to beefing up several of my existing forces for the likes of Dragon Rampant, HotT or possibly giving Kings of War a go in 15mm. Then the ever-charming John over at the Facebook Group 15mm Fantasy Gaming came up with the DR Painting challenge. I’ve already forgotten the terms of the challenge but it has spurred me on a little.

So first up, the High Elves. I was lacking both heavy cavalry and some bowmen. Still need to add more light cavalry at some point.

These Heavy Cavalry are from Alternative Armies (hi Gavin!).

15mm dwarves from Black Raven make a return 5 years on

You know the drill. You painted up a group of minis and get them table-ready as it were but, at the time of completion, couldn’t decide on a suitable ‘detail’, the omission of which does not make the minis ‘incomplete’. Such was the case with these guys which I posted about back in August 2013. As you can see from the post images I had left the shields a plain white which was fine and suited their regimental type of colour theme. However last year I came across an image online of a bunch of dwarfs boasting what looked like (to me) Byzantine inspired shield designs and I though they looked amazing. Time to finish them off! a mere 5 years later…

Of course I cannot find the image again for reference so you’ll need to take my word for it. That aside, with a bit of simplification to the patterns (these are 15mm after all, gimme a break) but being true to the colour palettes, I think they turned out pretty well.
