Scratching my head on this one – I can’t remember where he came from and I’ve looked at the likely candidates but came up blank. Anyone?
That aside, he’s a perfect ‘stereotypical’ Vlad the Impaler type of vampire lord (without the Eastern European hat). I can tell you he is probably quite old – the metal is quite soft (that raised mace came off and needed pinned) but the casting detail is very high. He’s turned out a little brighter than I planned but this is 15mm after all and he’d look like a dark blob from further than 2 feet away otherwise.
It seems apt to follow on from my last post with this one, featuring character’s from one of the funniest, cleverest films of all time (in my humble opinion) – Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Whilst the film featured no zombies it doesn’t tax the imagination at all to see why Cool Mini or Not chose to include some of the characters from the classic in their Zombicide Black Plague character sets. Only disguised by ‘name’ there is nothing between the look of these and the Python team members. The only draw back is there are only six released – hopefully I could have ended that sentence with “so far” – no idea I’m afraid if there will be more.
Now these are not as ‘fine’ as the relatively recent arrivals on the miniature scene from Studio Miniatures (Medieval Mayhem) but as far as plastic board game miniatures are concerned they are rather very good indeed. There are some annoyingly positioned mold lines – straight through Sir Bedevere’s face spring to mind – but apart from that pretty good poses. Some painted up better than others but that’s down to yours truly and not the minis themselves.
Another “in-between” paint up of one of the less-good forces that feature in Splintered Light’s wonderful range of Woodland Warriors. I’ve painted many already but they have all been ‘goodies’. This is one of the rat leaders which I painted up while working on a larger ‘batch’ of other miniatures (a good way for me to ‘make a start’ on the next painting project).
Although sold as ’20mm’, these guys being what they are can work equally well with 15mm through to 28mm scale depending upon how flexible your ‘perspective’ is on how large these animals should/could/might be. Magic + fantasy = whatever you want after all…
A little while ago I posted about the huge scale discrepancy between a few “Slaine” inspired barbarian 28mm miniatures I picked up. You can read about it here if you like.
I got around to painting a couple of them. I’ve stayed pretty true to Slaine’s colouring and tartan/plaid garb.
If I had planned ahead I’d have taken some scale comparison shots of these 2 next to 15mm and 28mm brethren. As it is you’ll need to take my word for it that the brownies themselves are scale-wise the same as Splintered Light Miniatures sprites and fawns (which is really quite small) so these scale perfectly well with 10mm upwards in my opinion.
This is one of those pipe-dream-projects that has actually taken a step forward! I’ve always been interested in the ‘Gladiator’ thing and quite interested in playing games based around the arena.
Anyway, nothing was ever going to happen without some little men so I picked up a set from Rebel Minis and followed them up with a host from Museum Miniatures when I deemed ‘4’ did not offer enough choice. 15mm of course.
15mm Gladiators from Rebel Minis
Now these Gladiators are not comparable to the likes seen with the new Arena Rex which are very impressive. But, not wanting to sound tight (I’m not, really), this gives you nearly thirty Gladiators for less than the price of 1 Arena Rex miniature. I like the Rebel Minis ones quite a lot. The Museum Miniatures are a bit of a mixed bag – some okay, some meh, some bleh. But then, if you don’t love your mini, you don’t mind when they die in the arena!
Various ‘arena’ ideas and stalled terrain projects have yet to produce a definitive playing area for the games themselves. But that will come.
Here are the Museum Gladiators – pack of 24 with 12 sculpts for £7.50 (duplicates not painted and not included).
