Coolest 15mm Barbarians available: Copplestone rides again!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Mark Copplestone’s barbarians are brilliant. As far as barbarians are concerned, these, along with the also-brilliant Thain from Demonworld, are my favourite miniatures. Continue reading Coolest 15mm Barbarians available: Copplestone rides again!

Frostgrave anyone? In 15mm of course!

Frostgrave from Osprey seems to be the flavour of the month and attracting quite a lot of attention (noticed it even got it’s own board on LAF – I wonder how that works…). After listening to the chaps on Fools Daily ranting about it I finally caved in and ordered a copy – only £10 off Amazon for a pretty hardback you can’t really say no. Should arrive early next week. 15mm SAGA: Arthurian Warband from Splintered Light

A modest warband of Arthurian inspired Romano-British Dark Age warriors. These are from the excellent Splintered Light Miniatures range of Dark Age miniatures. Lots of variety to be had and these photos do not do justice to the sculpts or the poses.

My first effort with Little Big Men shield transfers did not go so well with my Greeks (partly because of the contour on the shields, partly because I couldn’t cut out a perfect circle!). These ones were more successful and I’m pretty please that I didn’t spend hours hand painting them.

I was also messing around with magnetic bases hence the uniformity of the warriors – posing them individually would make for a better pic and I may come back and do that so they are seen without that disadvantage.

Mounted and archers still to paint but some Viking characters from SLM very soon. All heading towards SAGA in 15mm I think…

Flights of Fantasy: More Splintered Light Dungeon Adventurers

This is a further batch of adventurers from Splintered Light Miniatures – yes, there are even more to come. As I mentioned before, by buying in the the ‘Adventurer Army’ packs at Rebel Minis and SLM own packs and gladiator packs you can easily end up with an almost Reaper-Bones challenging selection of character models for traditional fantasy settings (see older post for links).

I think the pics speak for themselves. The first band of warrior types have been painted to represent an “Order of Goodness” (shiny armour and white trappings – how they keep them clean I’ve no idea). The second batch a mixture of wizardy-folk including the compulsory not-Gandalfs. 15mm goodness.

Conan! Crom, that looks painful: 15mm Copplestone

It was by pure coincidence that I had been reading a volume of Conan stories. I’d never read them before. Then came along the recent Conan Kickstarter. I said to myself, “Nah, I’ll do that in 15mm and save the money/painting time for something else”.

I picked out a couple of Conan look-a-likes from the amazing range from Copplestone Castings that I’ve had waiting in the queue for a while. Had to have a Belit as well. I’ve said in the past how impressed I have been with this range of models. Painting these 3 was fun and turned in to a bit of a ‘flesh-tone and blending exercise’ in 15mm.

PS. The “Crom, that looks painful” title refers to the popping muscle tone of these men. Total fantasy.

Anyway, despite my initial disregard for the Conan Kickstarter, the more I looked and saw how it was growing and how fine some of the sculpts were, I caved in. How could I not? Roll on October…

A couple of old hags: Blue Moon 15mm witches

I bought this pack a while ago from Blue Moon Manufacturing correctly thinking that these ladies would make great characters or plot point/objectives for various skirmish periods. There are 6 different sculpts in the pack but I’ve only painted up these two lovelies so far. One your stereotypical ‘Snow White’ witch, the other more gypsy inspired.

I don’t know what it is but over the last few months I’ve been acquiring quite a few witches in 15/18mm. (I hope their curses don’t transfer to miniature representations.) I feel a comparison review coming up in the future…
