I’ve dabbled with all popular scales. 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 25mm, 28mm, 32mm. They all have there strengths and weaknesses of which I will not bother to go in to here – there’s plenty of debate on the forums to that effect.
When I threw myself into 15mm as my ‘scale of choice’ I sincerely felt if offered the best of all worlds. I was looking for a ‘single scale’ to do everything from mass battles to skirmishing. And it does – for a through and through gamer. But I’m coming to realise that’s not what I really am. I’m a dabbler. Something of a magpie without any clear plan or agenda. I approach a project with a gamer’s perspective but never really ever fulfil the end ‘gaming’ goal. It merely acts as a motivator rather than a target. Continue reading 6mm, 10mm, 15mm, 25mm, 28mm? Torn. And the Collector Syndrome→
Like many on LAF celebrating 20 years since the release of Necromunda, I too am a little stunned and feel a little older today than I did last week. Like so many others, Necromunda played a big part in my gaming experience and I remember often and very fondly of the rather lengthy campaign that was run at the SESWC back in the mid/late 90s. It was a blast and probably the best time I’ve had gaming. Continue reading 20 Year Shocker: Necromunda!→
Whilst on a bit of a terrain spree at the moment I thought I’d balance up the Fantasy with some Sci Fi images.
TopoSolitario.com is a website that I’ve visited many times over the last few years. I admire both Marcos Hidalgo’s talent and generosity in making feely available some very very nice paper-based terrain goodies. Kudos to you. Continue reading Sci Fi Terrain vibe→
If you approach your blog in the same way as I do then you sometimes miss something when posting. I pretty much do things in batches and as a result ‘time lines’ become blurred. I paint in batches. Then photograph several batches at once. Upload to blog and when time permits post a blog based on what’s available in the Media Library.
So this is a second batch of Walking Dead zombie survivors which were painted months after the batch posted yesterday, photographed in a different batch (so different times stamps) but really part of the same ‘project’.
These are also from Khurasan. I’m particularly fond of the wee guy at the front with the Angry Birds t-shirt (used to play that a lot and still hold the highest score in the world on a couple of levels!) and Dale’s flowery shirt. Used GW/Citadel technical paint Blood for the Blood God on the fireman’s axe for the first time. Works not bad.
I also found a group shot of the miniatures posted yesterday so I’ve included that so all the Walking Dead cast of characters are together in one place!
Who doesn’t love a a bit of a zombie fest? And what better than 15mm miniatures quite similar (but clearly not the ‘same’) as characters from one of TVs biggest hits of recent times? These guys tick a lot of boxes for me; a fondness for the TV show, zombie games, skirmish games, character miniatures and miniatures that can be used in more than one setting* – winner!
* large number of the survivors would be equally at home in a post apoc world (which the Walking Dead is basically I suppose), Sci Fi or Pulp/Modern games.
It’s been a while since I took these pictures and I’m pretty sure the girl in the blue dress in the second image is not from one of the Khurasan packs (Rebel Minis I think). I pulled her out to paint up as my Goldilocks from this older post!
