New Terrain from Poland

I apologise in advance if this is a bit wordy, but a few caveats and background is required. Also sorry for both the number and the poor quality of the terrain photos!

Some caveats;

  1. I’m no terrain builder (a dabbler is perhaps the correct description)
  2. I’m in no way affiliated with the guy that made this stuff
  3. I like ‘flexible’ terrain that will work with my ‘flexible’ brain and ‘flexible’ tastes
  4. The photos below show the terrain in question PLUS bits of my own terrain
  5. IMPORTANT: I almost immediately repainted the terrain I bought soon after it arrived. There is nothing wrong with the colour it is produced in but “it ain’t my colour”. I’ve included an image of the terrain ‘as seen’ on eBay which is accurate as to what I received. I painted mine with 2 or 3 shades of sandy stone colour plus some green for underlying ‘vegetation growth’
  6. Again, sorry for the picture quality and hasty terrain set up. I was limited on time so rushed both the table set up, addition of other bits of terrain and grabbed random (almost) miniatures off the shelves to illustrate scale. (I so wish I hadn’t used that cardstock bridge!)

As will be the case with most of you – I have miniatures and terrain stuffed in to every cupboard, shelf, under-table, etc there is. Why do you need more? Well you don’t. The world won’t end without it but hey.

Point of this post? – I believe I found a great bargain that offers great terrain with lots of potential – and I wanted to share it with you. Continue reading New Terrain from Poland

Update to Khurasan’s Jasmine Throne Foreign Battalions

A good while back I posted photos of my initial stab at Khurasan’s Jasmine Throne Foreign Battalions Jasmine Throne Foreign Battalions. I’ve since been back to complete the miniatures I have from the range (found here). Jon was out of stock of one of the four packs when I ordered so this isn’t the complete “Infantry” range but, IMHO the best 3 of the 4 packs available.

As before, I’ve not painted these up as a unified “Battalion” but more as individuals so that they can fit more with a skirmish orientated game/universe/setting.

(Whilst checking the link to these it looks like Jon may have renamed the range from the ‘Jasmine Throne Foreign Battalion’ to the ‘Interstellar Foreign Legion’.)

Who should be Goldilocks?

Okay, a bit of New Year fun. Started painting up these fabulous miniatures from Khurasan. Talk about bears with attitude! Despite the fact there are four, it struck me that a ‘mercenary/salvage team/squad’ of these would benefit from a female leader perhaps. I couldn’t decide which was best so painted three options. What do you think?

A.) Goldilocks “Rebel Carolee” and the three bears

B.) Goldilocks IMG_0960 - Goldilocks and the three bearsRebel Hunter” and the three bears

C.) Goldilocks “Highlander Urban Fantasy Set 1” and the three bears

Let me know what you think. Just for fun.

UPDATE

Following some great feedback and comments on TMP here are a few additional alternatives to the above options…

Yet another tangent. Going all PULP.

Like the poor moth drawn to the nearest light, I am but a typical gamer/miniature collector drawn to the next new shiny thing.

Maybe this is more in keeping with previous thoughts on “Indian in the Cupboard” where a mash-up of all the shiny things I like can be achieved – Sci Fi, Fantasy, Pirates, Wild West and Adventure. I listened to a review (an excellent review) on Meeples and Miniatures about Pulp Alley. I had heard of Pulp Alley but dismissed it as its theme appeared to be very “Indiana Jones”. Encouraged by M&Ms enthusiasm and a bit more research that suggested the system far more ‘open’ than I had assumed, I took the almighty plunge and bought the rules. At £6.25 you can’t go too wrong.

Well, after reading I think it might well be the Holy Grail of rules that I have been looking for. Character and story driven, simple rules, fun activation and the addition of perils make for a fun combination. In addition it does not take a huge leap of imagination to seeing this system being very adaptable to other genres. Indeed, perhaps a mutli-genre world where toy soldiers come to life and live in a cupboard!

The only immediate draw back I see is the fairly tight ‘structure’ used for creating Leagues/Bands/Groups. I suspect however a bit more thinking, play testing and research will open that one up too.

First stop I think will be Pulp Alley + Five Parsecs from Home. See what kind of offspring that generates.
