Still here. Just being negligent. Here is a big mean thing to revitalise things.

It’s been over a year since my last post and even then there had only been a handful in 2023. I do love this blog but my attention has been drawn to other matters in recent times. Will I rectify this? I hope so.

In the mean time here is a large Kraken from the boardgame Conan that I finished off a while ago. He has not made it to the table yet (haven’t been playing very much either) but I think he looks the part if a little risqué (I didn’t sculpt him so not my fault).

Mythic Battles: Ares, Leonidas and the Greek Warriors

What a game, and what miniatures. Mythic Battles: Pantheon from Monolith Games.

I’m a sucker for a good Kickstarter and I got this game some years ago now (Raganarok has just landed also). I have completed the base game miniatures and a good few of the Kickstarter exclusives.

Rise of the Undead: Conan the Board Game

A while back I was dipping in to painting up some more of the fine miniatures from the Conan Board Game from Monolith/Mythic. I though I’d select some of the undead troops and characters in case they proved useful as double duty in some other skirmishy/warband game.

This first one is an odd sculpt and I’m not that keen on it but it does look a bit better once painted. Conan the Board Games Mythic Games Conan the Board Games Mythic Games Conan the Board Games Mythic Games Continue reading Rise of the Undead: Conan the Board Game

Mini Update: Dark Demon faces up to Conan

He was one of those minis that I picked up to paint individually whilst working on some bigger groups to relieve the monotony. There are a few excellent painted examples of this Dark Demon to see online but a few of (the awesome ones included) were way too heavy on the highlighting on the skin for my taste. I tried for a bit of a more muted (realistic?) approach. Great muti-purpose beastie.

Forget lead piles, it’s the plastic ones that are taking over: Conan the Board Game

I’ve enjoyed painting up quite a host of the ‘plastic playing pieces’ that I got with Zombicide Black Plague (see related posts). As I’ve mentioned on various posts the quality of the miniatures included with this type of board game has come on in leaps and bounds in the recent past and Conan the Board Game is no exception.

The KS pledge turned up last year but I’ve been a bit slower in tackling the miniatures (still working on the ZBP stuff too). But I thought I should at least paint up the main characters from the core box below. Far less cartoony than the ZBP counterparts, they will easily do double-duty in other Fantasy systems/settings.

Some Special Guests for Zombicide Black Plague

Over the last few years the offerings from a range of creators such as CMoN and Monolith/Mythic to name a couple have spoilt the table top gamer for choice and quality. The range of the miniatures in some of these games are very impressive and the quality is only getting better (looking at you Mythic Battles and Joan of Arc).

I had already had a run at eating into the plastic pile that was Zombicide Black Plague with the core box characters and the whimsical troop of tribute-Knights. Last summer I attempted to dig further chunks out of the pile. This first offering are the player characters found in the Paul Bonner Special Guest box. It is the only guest box which appealed to me at the time of the Kickstarter offering loads of character and a few minis that would not be out of place in a good-olde-fantasy-bash.
