15mm Space Marines

I’m at a loss to where to take these exactly. They are a few testers of a larger force. They ended up blue by default because I’d loaded an airbrush with blue for something else, had left over, and just sprayed them as they were near by. A ‘near-by spraying’?

As you can see, 3 of them are assault troops with shields and hand weapons. I can’t for the life of me decide what (if anything) I should paint on their shields or other markings for that matter. Mental block.

Any suggestions?

FYI. These are old miniatures no longer available for legal reasons (I believe). Once upon a time produced by The Scene. Their current range of ‘Wasteland’ warriors are echoes of some Space Ork sculpts also once available (and in my possession to be painted). 15mm 40k anyone?

Pussy Cats in Space: Khurasan’s Felids

I’ve always liked cats. My current cat is called Haggis because we got him around the time of Burn’s Night and he looks a little like an uncooked haggis. He’s boss of the dogs who are ten  times his size. He’s cool and tough.

Segway: These feline inspired guys from Khurasan are far more in keeping with the cover artwork for the Man-Kzin Wars novels than the old citadel 15mm Aslan miniatures I recently picked up on eBay. They make them look like kittens.

vs

Needlesstosay I like them a lot. If you want feline aliens then these are the chaps to go for. Call them what you will; Felids, Aslans, Tigrids. They are fine companions to other earth-inspired aliens; Bears, Dogs, Monkeys, Repitles and Rhinos (once I’m done with the lead pile that is!)

15mm Post Apocalyptic Survivors, Cultists or Ravagers

Since I bought these 15mm.co.uk has expanded their 15mm Post Apocalyptic range and I’ll no doubt pick them up next time I’m ordering. As it was, it was actually the HOF Cultists that struck more of a chord with me as they were reminiscent of some old 20mm Dark Future Cultists I’ve had for decades. The sculpting on them is a bit less cartoony than the Post Apocalyptic range. All in all, they make quite a good group of flexi-badies, post apoc or sci fi.

I’ll no doubt pick up the new Mutants as well but they are struggling to match the excellence of these Khurasan sculpts (and these). They will all be keeping these chaps busy!

Micropanzer Amakudari Scout Squad 15mm

Whilst I’ve been in the hobby for some time, it is only more recently that I’ve taken 15mm to heart as a scale. Whilst familiar with most of the suppliers in the market, for some reason Micropanzer had never really come on to my radar – until recently that is. His recent 50% blow-out advertised on TMP caught my attention and a sizeable order was sent and kindly received at an extremely generous discount (though the tax man still got his cut at this end!).

Most of them are still in lead-state at the moment but I had to bump these chaps, the Amakudari Scout Squad, to the top of the painting queue. My son was recently playing a lot of “Destiny” on the PS4 and these guys struck a chord with the type of styling seen in that game.

As I often do, rather than a military theme, I’ve seen these more as a desperate group of nomadic desert/savannah dwelling hunter types that would easily be at home in a proper sci fi or post-apocalypse setting. With the “Destiny” inspired detailing, one or two of these could be added to some mercenary crew as ravager or scout types. Basically, really flexible and cool miniatures!

The big question though is what is happening with Micropanzer at the moment? Like I said, I’m new to this particular market and do not know if Jason’s announced hiatus and the closing of the shop is either common, long-lasting or otherwise. Jason, or anyone that knows, that sees this – please let me know.

15mm Khurasan all-lady sci fi strike team

For some reason these fine ladies missed the Sci Fi Bonanza from last year. A great set from Khurasan Miniatures labelled “15mm Female Auxiliaries in Light Armour with energy weapons (x5)“. It doesn’t take a huge stretch of the imagination to see them as a ships crew, bounty team or similar. Break the team up with other figures and they are just pretty cool characters.

15mm Khurasan Mutants: Super Soldiers and Forsaken

All of these miniatures would be equally happy (if they can be happy) in either a sci fi or post apocalyptic environment. The Mutant Super Soldiers in particular are A+ on all fronts – style, sculpting and character. The Forsaken (mutant scavenger low tech probably-cannibals-types) are an A- only becuase of their fragility.

In both cases I’ve tried to increase variety with various earthy skin tones. IMHO “must buys” for any 15mm gaming in these genres. Please forgive the tartan livery on the Super Soldiers – I started with some simple lines which weren’t working and ended up with Caledonian Brutes (or Bay City Roller’s fans gone bad). If Khurasan decided to extend the Super Soldier line with another pack or two (heavy weapons would be good and more assault-types) I’d be very happy!

Check Khurasan’s Mutants at the End of Time line (can’t link directly to them at the moment due to site being partly off at the moment).

Mutants and Death Ray Guns anyone?
